Kudos to the devs for the attention to detail.) I do wish the subtitle font panel was a little more clearly spelled out (like everything else in the preference panel) instead of just an icon. Then I realized there was an option to control that behavior. (I initially thought it was a bug because I usually like having the other screen available when watching something fullscreen. There is even an option to black out other monitors in a multi-monitor setup when going full-screen for a clean viewing experience. Plethora of options does not need to come at the expense of clean organization. Clearly a lot of thought went into organizing this, and many other devs could learn from this. So many options, and so cleanly organized. The preference panel is an embarrassment of riches. And as far as I know, this is the only MacOS media player that supports ruby tags. But for the most part, ruby tags are working well. I’ll try and make a screen grab and send to the devs, so hopefully they can figure out what’s wrong. Well, actually, not flawlessly - there has been a couple of instances where the ruby tag didn’t resolve properly. Some sub files that forced me to use VLC now display correctly in Movist 2.0, and the ruby tags are displayed flawlessly. But there were times I felt it was getting a bit long in the tooth, with some sub files being inexplicably incompatible, and Movist not supporting some. Movist has been my go-to media player for years, especially because of its stellar subtitle support. Why should anyone screen the devs before making a purchase? The idea alone is undignifying. While I am glad to see the developers are finally seeing their product as a real business opportunity, but be honest with your consumers. Often, if there are major changes to the billing systems, such as the one Movist has gone through, not only they announce the decision across all social media, they don't slap the non-Korean speaking users by making it "free" for only few. I had to run Google Translate just to read why Movist made a decision to go indepependent and run the so-called event only for 4 months without publicizing it. They need to work with Apple to deliver the app, not run a pseudo black market. Even now the app description leaves that part out. They could have simply added the fact that there are two versions available like any other apps do. Most apps, when confronted with rules and policies conflicts, choose to create a downloadable add-on, which then can be downloaded separately, not fully going independent.

But seeing an upgrade event held in barely-in-existence website alongside another minor Korean sub, does make me wonder if the developer had the intention to make this available outside of Korea.īlaming Apple for strict App Store policies has not and will not help anyone either. If this is a major upgrade, heck, you might want to consider subscription model. But seeing there was a "free upgrade event" for all licenses, except that it was not announced on the App Store front, is simply hilarious.ĭon't get me wrong here: I believe there are ought to be second payment.

I've been using this app even before it hit the App Store, and was very grateful to see it available on the store. Movist finally has a working support website, except neither the website nor the App Store does the justice to keep people informed. I’m sure everyone knows what they are ought to expect by simply looking at the screenshots. There are also some real competitors showing up on the App Store.ĭedicated subtitle supports and options, and good enough performance. Or it was, now that Movist *PRO* is available on the developer's website separately, perhaps I should refrain from calling it the best. It’s probably one of the best media players available in the App Store. Check it out before you make the purchase.

There was also a free upgrade event, most English-speaking users would have missed out on. Tl dr There is now a *PRO* version of the same app available only on the developers' website.
